Pride and Progress

Pride and Progress is a book jacket design created for a fan fiction continuation of Pride and Prejudice. The goal was to capture the elegance of the historical setting while introducing a fresh perspective that reflects the story’s themes of personal growth and change

The Challenge
The design needed to feel connected to the visual language of Pride and Prejudice without appearing like a direct copy. It also needed to appeal to readers who enjoy historical fiction while establishing its own identity.

Design Solution
The final design combines traditional and contemporary elements through elegant typography, ornamental details, and a silhouette illustration. The silhouette represents reflection and character growth, while the soft color palette reinforces themes of transformation and emotional depth. Visual hierarchy, contrast, and repetition help create a cohesive design across the front cover, spine, and back cover.

Process
The project began with genre research and visual exploration, followed by concept mock-ups and layout development. Multiple design iterations were used to refine typography, decorative elements, and overall composition before completing the final book jacket.
